Indoor National Series

Are you ready to take the title?

A new year, new champions; Are you ready to take the JConcepts Indoor National title?

Back in 2011, JConcepts had a vision to create the best RC racing series on the planet and with the cooperation of many fine tracks and sponsors, we united to develop the first indoor nationwide race series that travels to 5 unique tracks across the United States dedicated for racers and enthusiasts.

From its inaugural year, the INS became an instant classic exceeding all expectations. Now in its 8th year and with over 7,500 entries and counting, the JConcepts Indoor National Series has become THE race for racers to showcase their driving skills on a national level while testing themselves against some of the industry’s best drivers. The JConcepts INS is well known for its fun and friendly racing atmosphere combined with world-class competition. At the core, the INS remains unchanged, but is devoted to raising the standard for 2018 in terms of series participation, factory driver representation, and professionalism. With the bar set high, 2018 is going to be another unforgettable year with each of the 5 races providing a unique, extraordinary race experience that’s going to last a lifetime.

Making sure the INS gets the best in news media coverage, we are expanding the media exposure with more professional event photos, team driver interviews, and our industry leading live coverage. Our goal is to not only share the experience with the racing community, but to our friends, family, and potential future racers.

The distinct 5 race series takes on the seasonal format of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall Nationals races that will be held at fixed locations while the final race will serve as the ‘End of year bash’ and series championship presentation. All events will be awarded separately so those concerned about commitment will be recognized for performance regardless of overall series participation. City destinations, track facilities, and competition level have all been weighed and evaluated ahead of time so rest assured the experience and atmosphere is worthy…. now it's up to you.

Are you ready?

2017 JConcepts Summer Indoor National Series
Race Recap

The 2017 JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals was a race to remember. After 7 seasons of tweaking and fine-tuning the race format and formula, the Summer Indoor Nationals was the most competitive race to date with over 280 entries and a multitude of National and World Champions in attendance. Bar none…. it was the highest level of competition ever seen at an Indoor Nationals. Adding to the spice this year, the Summer INS has moved from Chico, California’s Outback Raceway to perhaps the World’s best race facility, Hobby Action R/C Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. From the inaugural Desert Classic race just 5 months earlier, HA has come a long way with the track build and track quality providing a much smoother surface and increased grip levels.

Rule Change for 10th scale buggy wheel construction

2.4"/60mm wheels will now be permitted for the remainder of the 2015 INS Season.  ROAR has updated their rulebook as follows...

ROAR is introducing a rules change with immediate effect that results in 2 different wheel configurations being available as options for manufacturers and competitors:
- the existing 2.2" nominal wheels
- the newer 2.4" or 60mm nominal wheels

The new rules do not include dimensions compatible with vintage style wheels as they are generally not used in ROAR sanctioned competition.

Dimensions for the traditional 2.2" wheel will be:
- Mounting Bead Diameter - 2.20 inch (55.88mm) +/-.013 inch (.30mm)
- Maximum Overall Diameter - 2.42 inch (61.468 mm)
- Width - 1.513 inch (38.43mm) maximum

Dimensions for the newer wheel style will be:
- Mounting Bead Diameter - 2.380 - 2.427 inch (60.45 - 61.65 mm)
- Maximum Overall Diameter - 2.571 inch (65.3 mm)
- Width - 1.513 inch (38.43mm) maximum

Indoor National Series Clarification Regarding Tires and Wheels

To clear a little confusion regarding 2.2” and 2.4” wheels and tires we have provided some additional information below to bring some consistency to the Indoor National Series.

At race series events #1-3 it was permitted to use the larger bead diameter tires only mounted on 2.2” wheels.    This was done to allow the use of most manufacturers signature tires to promote the ability to choose between all brands and styles during the event.   This is done by simply gluing the rubber conversion bead to a standard 2.2” wheel and gluing the 2.4” tire to the modified wheel.   While it is understood the official ROAR rule is to NOT allow the use of any 2.4” tires or wheels in combination with each other, we feel obligated to our racers to maintain the consistency set during races #1-3.     The rule regarding these wheels and tires is under review by ROAR for the 2015 season and the Indoor National Series intends to adhere to any changes ROAR clarifies in 2015 going forward.

Summer Indoor Nationals Recap

Ryan Maifield completed the perfect debut with Team Losi Racing as he took all three of his new TLR cars to victory. Having dominated the same event last year with Team Associated, the Arizona ace’s much anticipated first outing with his new team again produced an all conquering performance. Top Qualifier for each of his A-Mains, in the series’ two big classes, 2wD & 4WD buggy, he would wrap things up early repeating his A1 performances in A2 to claim overall victory. Also debuting TLR’s new 22 SCT 2.0 at the A-Main Hobbies owned track he made it a hat trick as he took the win of that class’ single A-Main.

Rules

2018 Updates –

For 2018, the Stadium and SCT classes have been simplified. To help bring new life to the events, the truck classes will be formatted around the 13.5 motor. Now, with Stadium and SCT classes available in a new power package, racers have fresh classes to race alongside the already popular 13.5 4wd class.

In addition, the success of the Independent classes on the Super Cup Championship Series has driven us to add this offering on the National Series. The Independent class, limited to 40 entries per event, is quite simply a 17.5 buggy class for drivers without sponsorships. This class targets new and inexperienced racers or veteran drivers who like to compete without the need for manufacturer affiliation. To keep things even more equal, a control tire will be utilized in this class. The JConcepts tires will be available from the race organizer where the driver can purchase during registration.

The rules for Independent sponsorships and affiliation –

  • Intended for less skilled, beginning or veteran drivers
  • No sponsors - chassis, accessory, motor / battery and hobby shop sponsorships included
  • Youth (15 years and younger) drivers may receive support from parents, this includes a parent as a hobby shop owner.
  • Manufacturer, hobby industry or hobby shop employees are not eligible to compete
  • Follows control tire rule

We are going to be observing the current ROAR rules on the National Indoor Series events. If you are unaware of these rules or updates please visit the ROAR website. We will continue to use a visual technical inspection as the race series builds in popularity. Below are noteworthy rules specific to the Indoor National Series for quick reference.

In the 17.5 stock classes, house rules will be adopted regarding boost settings. For each event where no speed control boost is allowed, a representative from the track will tech for boost as they typically do for their local races. If you are looking to bump-up during the weekend or plan on finishing in the top 3 you will want to be utilizing a legal combination.

Stock Power Rules

The Stock Buggy, Truck and Short Course classes will be using 17.5t motors. This should provide everyone with easy access to the current standard stock brushless motor for off-road.  We will be using house rules when it comes to boost vs. no boost and it will be decided by the host track and director.   At events where NO boost is allowed be prepared for a small random check at these events.   Please check the host track rules ahead of time to make sure you have the required setup. Adjustable timing motors are allowed.

Short Course Class Rules

The Pro 2 Stock SCT class will allow changes to the radio, receiver, body and tires and aftermarket hop-ups. Any combination of stock SCT RTR motor and speed controls from the available vehicles are allowed or the use of 17.5 brushless motors and speed control equipment. Body changes are allowed, as long as the body appears similar to a Short Course type truck. All 3.0 x 2.2 SCT tires are legal for the stock class.

The Open Pro 2 class is intended for the more experienced driver and is open to all manufacturer SCT trucks. All 3.0” x 2.2” SCT tires are legal for the open SCT classes.

Only 2s Lipo battery packs are allowed in all Short Course Classes.

The Open Pro 4 Short Course racers are allowed to run 540 or 550 motors.
