JR Mitch

In 1986 JR was introduced to R/C vehicles when his grandmother bought him a Tamiya Monster Beetle when he was 5 years old.   JR’s family quickly became a part of the new hobby when they found a local track and began racing together every Friday night.  JR took to the hobby in a way that could only be described as natural talent and was racing with the older guys on a weekly basis.

JR gained exposure during the Florida Winter Championships and became a team driver for Traxxas where he raced the Blue Eagle truck to the A-main.   During the 1992 season JR made a move over to Team Losi and Novak and he spent the mid 1990’s representing both teams with pride in all parts of the United States.   JR was hitting on all cylinders when he made the A-main at the 1996 ROAR Nationals in modified truck and represented Team USA at the 1997 1/10th IFMAR Off-Road Worlds in Pomona, CA.

At the end of 1997, JR was offered a travel position on the Team Associated team and took the opportunity to travel both the United States and International racing circuit.    At this point, his specialty was 1/10th off-road but touring car and 1/8th buggy quickly became new passions.    By the early 2000’s JR had won just about every Region 4 title available and his racing resume grew to a new level.   Dominating on a local level for his sponsors was a major focus but remaining in the hunt nationally was the ultimate goal for the Florida native.

Before the 2009 season, JR was signed by JConcepts to become the flagship Florida driver and top regional talent on the east coast.    JR raced along with the JConcepts Racing Team to help develop new tires, bodies and accessories while promoting for Team Associated, Reedy and JConcepts.   JR went on a tear on the Florida State Off-Road Nitro Series, JConcepts Clash and Super Cup Championship Series winning in just about every class imaginable.

With over 20 ROAR regional titles under his belt, multiple national A-main finals and a ROAR 1/8th double A-main appearance at the 2011 event in Beaumont, CA; JR decided to move on to TLR for 2012.   2012 reinvigorated JR’s racing,  winning was once again fun.  JR took on the International crowd and participated in the Neobuggy event and 2012 IFMAR 1/8th buggy World Championships  as a member of JConcepts and TLR.   Traveling to the 1/10th ROAR Off-Road Nationals and qualifying for Team USA and the 2013 IFMAR World Championship was another highlight of the 2012 racing season.

With a World Championship in the United States, 2013 turned into a 1/10th off-road focus year for JR.   He traveled throughout Florida, Texas and California prepping for the National and World events, held later in the year in California.   JR delivered a top 20 result at the ROAR Nationals and top 30 during the IFMAR World Championships while helping to debut a new TLR 4wd buggy, the 22-4.     Returning from the world championships, JR immediately took another Region 4 title for JConcepts and TLR at the 2013 event held at Holeshot Raceway in Sanford, FL.

JR strives to reach his goals at each race, which has helped him stay on top of his game for over 20 years.   JR states, “I have been lucky enough to travel all around the world.  It has also given me the opportunity to meet some great people in our industry as well as many others.   I’ve learned that you can’t push your way through the hobby without earning it.   I’ve earned my place as a great racer and I did it by allowing things to fall into place and promote my sponsors to the best of my ability.
