Summertime – 2007 Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout
The skies were clear and the weather warm for the 2007 Off-Road Shootout hosted by Hot Rod Hobbies in Saugus, CA. With everyone gearing up for the World Championships later this summer, all the factory race teams were in attendance to battle for the titles. The track layout was super smooth and flowing and with the trademark Hot Rod "Blue Groove" of rubber, the lap times were insanely fast.
In Qualifying - 4wd modified
Although all the world championship hopefuls came to town to attend, it was more of the same - The Ryan and Ryan show. Ryan Cavalieri and Ryan Maifield showed the dominance of their BJ4 WE's throughout qualifying by TQing all 4 rounds. Cavalieri narrowly took the TQ over Maifield using their 2nd tie-breaker. The A-Main grid also included the BJ4 WE's of Jared Tebo and Rick Hohwart.

A1 - Left off where qualifying ended, with the Ryan and Ryan show. Cavalieri led Maifield from pole as they steadily pulled away. Cavalieri made a small bobble on the 6th lap giving Maifield the lead. Maifield held the lead until the last lap when Ryan and Ryan got together. Jesse Robbers made his way through as the Ryan's got marshalled giving Jesse Robbers the win, Cavalieri and Maifield rounded out the top 3.
A2 - Maifield made a daring pass on the first lap to take the lead, but gave it right back to Cavalieri only 2 laps later. Lap after lap the leaders freight-trained around the track. A late bobble by Maifield put Cavalieri out of reach. Billy Easton finished in the 3rd position.
A3 - The stage was set, a win by Robbers, Cavalieri, or Maifield could win the championship. After a small mistake Maifield made a daring first lap pass, only to have Cavalieri pass him right back. When Maifield tried to pull back in line, Robbers got together with him giving Cavalieri a comfortable lead and he never looked back. Cavalieri cruised home to take the Championship followed by Amezcua in 2nd and Robbers 3rd.
