Summer 08 - Manufacturer's Cup
For many years the R/C racing industry has been mostly about team and individual accomplishments with very little emphasis on promotion. To truly take this industry to the next level it's going to take a group effort to introduce the hobby to the masses. The Manufacturer’s Cup is something a little different, an event built around promotion and spectatorship versus an event built strictly around the competitors and representing teams. It's exciting to see that at least for one weekend per year R/C is competitive entertainment for spectators.
A reported near capacity crowd of 3,000 filled the seats for the Saturday night main event program. The competitors in each class were given the opportunity to win everything from a full sponsorship to a Honda CRF450R or Honda TRX300EX. The Manufacturer’s Cup appears to be in a class by itself featuring a first class event with first class prizes and participation. The radio control industry owes much gratitude to the entire crew behind the Manufacturer’s Cup race event.
The featured events in the program were the Pro 1/8th buggy and truck division. All the heavy hitters were in attendance and as qualifying started it was obvious who was looking to assert themselves atop the standings. Ryan Maifield fresh off a victory in the Pro buggy division at the Nitro Fest / Worlds Warm-up 2 was already in top form in round 1 of 1/8th truck qualifying. Sporting the new 1/8th truck Cross Hairs tire in yellow compound Ryan blitzed the Coeur d’Alene track and firmly placed his RC8T in the TQ position. Rounds 2 and 3 were merely a formality as Ryan took the TQ once again in round 2 locking up the overall TQ and his place on pole position for Saturday night’s festivities.
Saturday night was absolutely electric as the spectators packed the seats to see who would win the premier 1/8th buggy and truck classes. In the second event of the evening program the Pro 1/8th trucks, were set and introduced. Top Qualifier Ryan Maifield jumped out and held a lead on ultra quick 2nd qualifier Ryan Lutz. As the fastest driver it was clear that it was Maifield’s race to loose as he increased his lead lap after lap. With only 5 laps remaining an incredible drive was almost complete; Ryan’s strong pace was catching the 2nd and 3rd place drivers and with only one lap to go was a threat to lap the entire field. A huge roar from the crowd signaled that the race was complete with Ryan Maifield taking the win in the debut race for the Associated RC8T and JConcepts Cross Hairs tires.
The Coeur d’Alene track surface was somewhat unique, a specifically prepared hard packed surface created to bring out the highest of speeds and excitement for spectators. The high speed surface was extremely abrasive leaving some drivers with very little or no tread left to compete at the tail end of races. These conditions made for an ideal testing ground for the latest JConcepts 1/8th off-road tires and rubber compounds. JConcepts products did not disappoint with a TQ and win in the most brutal conditions against the fastest drivers the nation has to offer. JConcepts products are designed with style, passion and IFMAR World championship racing experience.
Once again, Brutal is no competition for JConcepts.
