Ryan Maifield adds another title by winning the R/C X-Fest with JConcepts Crossbows

For R/C racers Labor Day weekend in Minnesota has become R/C X-Fest weekend. For the 5th annual event 3 of the fastest drivers in the world converged in Cambridge, Minnesota for a weekend of excitement and no-holds barred entertainment.   With an event known for a multitude of classes and special events, the R/C X-Fest has become something to remember for all participants.

There is always something going on it seems during the X-Fest.  Powder-puff, Big Air Contest, Spud Run, Helicopter night fly, R/C Boat Demo and Mini X Off-road track rental are just a snippet of events available.

Ryan Maifield was in Minnesota to do business as his JConcepts equipped RC8b and RC8T were at the top of the field all weekend.  However, it did not come easy in the 1/8th buggy class.  Ryan encountered a few problems in qualifying which placed him into unchartered territory, the C-main.  Ryan, working together with teammates as the race developed, steadily got faster and ironed out qualifying problems.  Once the C-main was up Ryan was ready and was determined to work his way to the A-main the hard way.  Winning the C and B-main by multiple laps, Ryan was poised and ready for the A-main.  Mounting up a fresh set of JConcepts Crossbows in blue compound proved to be the ticket for the developing conditions for the A-main.

Maifield started near the back of the pack in the A-main but only after 10 minutes he threw down the fastest lap of the main and was fighting for 2nd place.   The 45 minute A-main proved to be too much for most of the competition but with plenty of practice from the C and B main and a healthy dose of the RC8b and JConcepts, Ryan continued to run down the leader.   With 10 minutes to go, Maifield made up critical time on the leader Ryan Lutz and a problem by the leader put Maifield at the front of the pack.   Leading out the last 10 minutes and then into victory lane was almost too sweet as Ryan crossed the finish line for yet another win with JConcepts on the 2009 racing tour.

Ryan Maifield’s winning combination included following JConcepts products:

Crossbows tires in Super Soft Blue Compound
Profiled 1/8th buggy inserts
Mono 1/8th buggy racing wheels

Illuzion – High Down force wing
Illuzion Hi-Flow body

Marshall Skare wins Expert Gas Truck at The FHF RC X-Fest

A race that has been called “The Woodstock of RC” has been quickly gaining momentum and attention nationwide for its unique format, friendly racing atmosphere and challenging track.  Fisk Hobby Farm celebrated the fifth edition of the RC X Fest on Labor Day Weekend with some special guest stars this year – Ryan Maifield, Ryan Lutz and Cody King.

The race is held in the horse arena at the Isanti County Fairgrounds in Cambridge, Minnesota on a track that is extreme in most every way.  The track area is gigantic, resulting in nearly 50 second laps for the fastest 1/8th scales.  Extreme Mountain lives up to its name with a 10 foot high peak on the carpeted wooden jump.  The dirt is soft, and quickly forms ruts that are reminiscent of Barstow to Vegas.

Challenges abound at this event, but JConcepts/ Associated driver Marshall Skare emerged as the victor in the Expert Gas Truck event.  He led both rounds of qualifying, being the only driver to turn 11 laps.  He got the holeshot out of the starting gate (yes – starting gate) at the beginning of the 30 minute main and was never passed during the race.  Gas Truck is still a popular class in Minnesota, like it continues to be in other states.

Goosebumps on the back and Carvers on the front were the only choice I considered for the truck from the outset,” he reported.  “I was really surprised how well the Carvers worked on the front of my truck from the very first lap I turned with them earlier this year.  They give the truck a really direct feeling at corner entry and maintain corner speed very well in the center of the corner in loamy conditions.  The Goosebumps had enough traction to allow me to pull wheelies, but the truck still had good rotation in the tight corners.”

Along with the correct tire selection, the JConcepts carbon fiber brake disk in Skare’s Team Associated RC10GT2 Factory Team truck allowed him to consistently perform Colin McRae-style spin turns on the track’s tricky wooden inclined hairpin turn all weekend.

Fun was had by all, including the Pro drivers who made the trip, saying they had a great time and will definitely be back next year.  After 5 editions of the race, RC X-Fest has become the premier nitro event for Minnesota, is attracting more and more drivers each year and has become a nationally recognized race to attend.
